Bio

Jonathan Johnes has lived in the Indianapolis area all his life, and has been creating art ever since he was young.  As a child he would draw his favorite scenes from comic books and eventually take every art class he could.  With the struggles he experienced in other areas of his academics, art became a positive outlet that anchored his mind as he struggled through other areas of school.

After highschool he found his way to Herror school of Art and Design where he honed his skills at drawing and painting.  During this time he found his love for abstract geometric paints along with landscape painting.  At the end of his tenure at Herror he was left with deciding where to go next.  He was accepted at Ball State University where he was awarded a graduate assistantship and expanded his experience in representational and abstract concepts.

After graduate school his artistic endeavors took a turn and he lost his path to determine where to go next.  He took a job working for an art installer right out of school and later transitioned to a janitor position at a car repair shop.  His final destination was to land at the Finish Line retailer in the corporate call center.

While there he found an unexpected support group.  Spanding from call center agents to the director there was a clear appreciation for his artwork and he started receiving commissions to do drawings for coworkers.  This continued as he moved to his current role as release manager on the website where team members in the corporate office often commission him to do paintings and drawings on a regular basis.

Fast forward to today.  It has been 14 years since his last show.  One day he saw a post from one of his oldest friends about the Marilyn Rose Art Center in which he found his first great opportunity to find his way back to the artworld in which he is eternally grateful.

In his works he hopes that you will see things in a new way, have an experience, and maybe find something that will help enrich your life into the future.

Special callouts to my wife for supporting me for years in my art interest and my family members for encouraging me to pursue this interest.
